General Tow Truck Service — Both Sides Of The Truck, One Shop Visit

A tow truck is two vehicles in one. There's the base vehicle — the chassis, engine, transmission, brakes, and drivetrain — and there's the tow body equipment — the hydraulic system, PTO, controls, winch, and all the mechanical systems that make the truck do its job. Both sides need regular service. Most shops only service one of them. When a tow truck operator takes their rig to a standard truck shop, the hydraulic system, PTO, and body equipment don't get touched. When they take it to a body specialist, the base vehicle doesn't get serviced. The result is a truck that's partially maintained at best.

At Quik Tow Repair we service both sides of the truck in one visit. Gio's confirmed service list includes general tow truck service specifically because tow trucks need a shop that understands the whole machine — not just one half of it. Our general service covers the full truck: engine fluids, transmission, brakes, cooling system, chassis lubrication, and a full inspection of the base vehicle side — plus hydraulic fluid and filter, PTO inspection, controls check, lighting and strobe verification, and a complete visual of the body equipment. In compliance with FMCSA commercial vehicle inspection and maintenance regulations, we document every service item and flag anything that needs attention.

General service visits also catch developing problems before they become breakdowns on a job. A tow truck that's regularly serviced at a shop that knows the whole machine stays on the road longer and costs less to maintain than one that's serviced piecemeal across multiple shops — or not serviced at the right intervals at all.

🔧 Chassis & Suspension Lubrication

Grease all chassis lubrication points — steering linkage, U-joints, kingpins, fifth wheel, and all suspension pivot points. Inspect for worn or failed components flagged during lubrication. Chassis lubrication is one of the most commonly skipped maintenance items and one of the fastest ways to wear out steering and suspension components prematurely.

  • All chassis grease points lubricated
  • Steering linkage and kingpin inspection
  • U-joint condition check
  • Fifth wheel plate and jaw inspection
  • Suspension component visual inspection

General Tow Truck Service — Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about what's covered, service intervals, fleet programs, and what to expect when you bring your truck to Quik Tow Repair.

General tow truck service at our shop covers the complete truck — engine oil and filter, transmission fluid, differential fluid, brake inspection and service, cooling system service, chassis lubrication, hydraulic fluid and filter, electrical system check, belt and hose inspection, lights and strobe verification, and a full visual inspection of the frame, suspension, and body components. We service the entire truck in one visit, not just the engine side.
A tow truck has two systems that need service — the base vehicle (engine, transmission, drivetrain) and the tow body equipment (hydraulic system, controls, PTO, winch). Most truck service shops only handle the base vehicle side. We service both sides in one visit — so you're not taking the truck to two different shops for a complete service.
Service intervals depend on the truck's usage and the manufacturer's recommendations. Most tow trucks in active service should be serviced every 5,000–10,000 miles or every 3–6 months, whichever comes first. Hydraulic system service intervals are based on hours of operation and fluid condition. We recommend a full service interval schedule during the first visit and track it for fleet accounts.
Yes. We service all commercial truck chassis brands and all tow truck body types — flatbeds, wreckers, integrated units, heavy-duty rigs, and specialized recovery trucks. If it's a tow truck, we can service it.
Yes. Hydraulic fluid condition check, filter replacement, and system inspection are part of our general tow truck service. If the hydraulic system needs more than a fluid and filter service — cylinder inspection, pump check, valve service — we flag it and provide a separate estimate before doing any additional work.
Yes. Fleet accounts include scheduled service across all trucks in the fleet, priority scheduling, per-truck service history on file, DOT pre-inspection service, and volume pricing. We call you when service is due — you don't have to track it.
A standard full-service visit takes half a day to a full day depending on the truck and whether any additional items are identified during inspection. We give you a specific timeline when you schedule and update you if anything changes during the service.
Our shop is in Pomona, CA. We serve towing companies and owner-operators across Los Angeles County, San Bernardino County, Orange County, and Riverside County. Call 888-628-4008 to schedule a service appointment.
